In the beginning of the book, Bilbo is going along with his normal, boring, life, carrying on as usual(which is also another part of the monomyth which is status quo, or normal life) until Gandalf comes seeking a partner for an adventure. This is the call to adventure. Some event that signifies the start of the journey or reason for the hero to leave his normal life. Bilbo refuses because he is a normal and boring person. But eventually Gandalf forces it upon him by directing all the Dwarves at his home. He is a Baggins on his father’s side who are known for not going on any adventures and with a high reputation. On his mother’s side he is a Took, a family who are known for disappearing randomly with a mysterious wizard to go on a quest.
