The Call of the Wild Essay
When one thinks of the definition of an honorable leader, he or she might think of a leader as being a president or a CEO of a company or organization. A leader might have power and influence, but honorable leaders are the ones that inspire, convince and connect to others. According to John c Maxwell ?a leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.? The Call of the Wild, is a story about a dog named Buck who lived with a rich Judge Miller in a life of paradise. Buck protected Judge Miller?s house, until one day his life changed forever when he was stolen and sold to men going to Yukon to be on a dogsled team. At first, Buck had trouble adjusting to his new life, but throughout the story he learns how to become a tough dog and an honorable leader through perseverance, loyalty and ability to adjust to new conditions.
Buck demonstrates honorable leadership through perseverance, loyalist and ability to adapt to new conditions when he?s placed in a new life setting. He?s demonstrates perseverance by showing his physical strength, determination to become the pack leader and his will to overcome physical hardships. He starts off living a comfortable rich life to trying to survive violence and harsh conditions in the Yukon. He almost dies at the end when Hal and Mercedes want him to cross the thin ice but his instinct to not follow their command as well as being fortunate to be saved by John Thornton saves him. He emerges as a new strong leader with great loyalty to Thornton, and the dog sled pack. At the end he goes back to his natural instincts and becomes a leader of a wolf pack something Buck could have done earlier when he was with John Thornton but he chose to be loyal to John.
