His call of abandonment and obedience is evident as in each of the separate accounts where He calls John, Peter, and James then later He calls Levi we can see that these men left everything (Luke 5:11;28) this sense of abandonment is also seen in the very beginning of the Bible in Genesis when God is calling Abram. (later to be known as Abraham) God calls Abram to “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land I will show you” (Genesis 12:1) We see how God calls His people to leave what they are familiar with. With Peter, James, and John it was fishing, with Levi it was his highly paying job as being a tax collector and Abram it was his family and his land. These three different scenarios can be seen in Gods call on people today. God calls us out of our comfort zone so that we may find comfort in Him and what He calls us to do.
