Pluralism and complex of the modern social development requires architectural space provides many kinds of purposes and multi-level value space. In ancient times, the Chinese architecture turned to highly unity of the beauty and the good, stressed the function of the ethics and moral on the architectural art. The Palace Museum is the largest and one of the most famous palace masterpieces in the world. As palace for emperors in Ming and Qing Dynasty, it has a unique structural design. The thought of group harmony is the characteristics of Chinese architectural aesthetics, but also the unique ideas of Chinese architecture. This kind of layout became dominant depending on the overall momentum of the symmetry, concert and good order among groups instead of the modeling of individual architecture. In the group harmony of Chinese architectures, it is characterized by “courtesy” of the Confucianism. “Courtesy” is the criteria of dividing into the differences among people. The high, thick red wall looks like a substantial buildings, it makes me feel safe to live there. Of course, as the royal houses, need to be stronger. This palace is magnificent, I thought the man who live there must be really rich.
“The golden mean” is not a simple average and compromise, but unbiased, not less and not much. When I look down the palace from above, they will easily find out that entire composition of palace is axisymmetric. When I saw it I can feel comfortable and balance. This compose style illustrate Chinese aesthetic, when Chinese appreciate an art, they are value axisymmetric so much.
