Statistics show their viewer demographic is a median of 58.7, the oldest of any major network. A study by Deloitte, showed that by the time the older viewership start watching news broadcast in the morning the younger viewership have already received and soaked in the information through new social media platforms and are already on to the next news. In an article titled Is It Possible To Get Millennia’s To Watch The News?, it stated “maybe not,” but CBS was the only one trying to venture out to new platforms to reach the new and increasing audience at that time. According to a survey done in 2014 by the Pew Research Center, it found that trust and distrust in the news media varies on their political ideologies. CBS News came in fourth (order of trust was: CNN, ABC and NBC) when polled, “Which news organizations do Americans trust the most?” However, the high numbers were linked to the fact of those whom have actually heard of the news source, the better known the source, the more it was trusted.
CBS was once in jeopardy of having their trust and credibility questioned. After one of their correspondents claimed ex President George Bush used inappropriate political influences to get out of National Guard duty. The correspondent had to later state the report was based on inauthentic documents. This is one of the problems, not just CBS but all major news networks are having today. They are all competing to be the first ones to have the latest news they either forget, or don’t care to fact check.
