Throughout the book, the point of view is a child who is a Zook, not to be confused with the rival town of the yooks. There is increased tension between these towns which are separated by a brick wall. Throughout the book the child is told a story by Grandpa, who was on duty to protect the town of the zooks, from the yooks. Through an increase in weapons by each town, eventually, the weapons became so strong, neither town wanted to risk using a bomb.
One of the most impactful parts of this writing is based on the timing of when it was written, also why it was written.
