The Butler is an American movie, which was directed by Lee Daniels. The story was written by Danny Strong, based on an African American butler’s real life story. Lee Daniels managed to put the civil rights movement into this movie and reflect the hierarchy position, racist situation, and the right of black people in the society. This movie was filming about the life of a sharecropper’s son, Cecil Gaines’ life.
Cecil grown up in a cotton plantation with his father and mother, working for their master in Macon, Georgia. The table was full of cakes and pie. Cecil smashed the window with his fist and break through the hotel restaurant even though he knew that the law was against to him, because he can’t bear the hunger anymore. A black man named Maynard, who was working in the restaurant walked up to Cecil and ask Cecil to get up when Cecil was busy eating the food in his hand, as they both knew that it will troubled Cecil if the boss were there. When Cecil told Maynard that he knew how to serve and was a house nigger back in Macon. Maynard slapped Cecil across the face because the word “nigger” was the white man’s word. This case emphasis that black don’t even have a position in the society, because white mans see the blacks as their property instead of people.
Then, Cecil worked in the hotel with Mr Maynard. Maynard trained him to be a proper butler in the hotel. One day, when Cecil moves a white old lady’s purse to make room for the martinis, the white old lady faster grab her purse away because he don’t like Cecil, a black man to touch it. There were 12 freedom riders riding on the freedom bus heading down to the country road in Alabama. The objective of the freedom ride is for desegregation. When the freedom riders were on their way to Alabama, someone noticed that there was a car with Klan Cross coming to their way. The men in their Klan dress started to smash the freedom bus and showed that they don’t want the colored enter into their states.
