The Bully
Please don’t believe what you hear,
They’ve made me a poster dog, and created this fear Yes, I’m big Yes, I’m strong
But I’ve done nothing wrong.
They put me in the pit and I could hear the people cheer
Blood on the walls, there was no fight in me, just fear.
When it was over, they tossed me aside.
I lay bleeding on the floor waiting for a chance, to get out the door.
I only have a day until my last breathe,
Only a day until my last breathe.
I haven’t had a chance to show you, I’m a good boy.
You never gave me a treat, not even a toy.
I am a Pit Bull, that doesn’t mean I’ll fight.
I’m not the Devil, don’t assume I’ll bite.
If you look at me, when you pass by
Do you really see a killer?
Please don’t

In the beginning of the poem, Bradstreet is sleeping during a calm and quiet night, and then suddenly, she wakes up by “thund’ring noise / And piteous shrieks of dreadful voice” (lines 3-4). She then sees that her house is burning in fire. Terrified, she cries out to God and prays so that God would help her. Her house eventually got entirely burned up, and Bradstreet ended up homeless, but she did not lose hope. She began to pull herself together and realized that God took away something that didn’t belong to her anyway.…

To begin with, Pit Bulls are misunderstood! According to Source #4, the story titled “The Media and the Pit Bull”, it states that if an attack of a dog occurs, the news reporters often call it a vicious Pit Bull even though the breed is unknown. If you can see, they might just be barking up the wrong tree! The behavior of a Pit Bull or any other dog depends on the way they were raised! That means, that you could be the problem to a…

In Billy Collins poem, Introduction to Poetry, a teacher attempts to educate students on how to approach the analysis of a poem. On a more complex level, the poem illustrates that the art of poetry is full of life, variety, enjoyment, and structure, which should be admired, explored, and appreciated. The use of metaphors is the dominant technique of the work, appearing in every stanza of the poem. A sense of structure and openness is created through the teacher’s comparisons.…

pit bulls just like any other animal wants nothing but to please their owner and the people that they are around. While reading an article from the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center, one man feels very strongly about the reputation that Pits are getting these days, "My kids are around pit bulls every day. In the '70s they blamed Dobermans, in the '80s they blamed German shepherds, in the '90s they blamed the Rottweiler. Now they blame the pit bull." - Cesar…

In the non-fiction poem, Shane Koyczan talks about many people who were bullied as kids and how bad bullying is. In Shane Koyczan’s poem, there is a lot of symbolism. One symbol that sticks out to me is the halls of the school representing the battle ground for them. The kids in the classroom where “bombarded by spit balls” but when they would leave they would enter the “battleground where we found ourselves outnumbered day after wretched day” (Koyczan 3) The symbol of the halls being a battleground is so true for these kids because day after day after day they are getting bullied to the extent where they have to fight to avoid mental or physical pain.…

When I read Stanley Elkin’s story A Poetics for Bullies I feel that he always uses those direct action words like climb, flick and hit. Those words make the sentence directly and naked, however, Robert Olen Butler likes to use some words which is not so direct and moving like appear and goes. I change appear to come and goes to walk because I think those words are more directly and make readers imagine the scene. For the sentence structure, I find that Butler doesn’t like to use some connection words to connect sentences but just use some separate sentences, however, Elkin used to use connection words.…

The poem "Oppression", written by Jimmy Santiago, discusses the basis oppression, its brutal effects on one’s mind, and the importance of one's ability to seek emancipation. In the first stanza of the poem, Santiago defines oppression as the feeling of "being trampled under" (Baca 3). Santiago continues to explain that oppression "[i]s a question of strength" (1) in regard to the oppressor, and likewise a question "of unshed tears" (2) in regard to the individual enduring oppression. Baca is stating that oppression is a conquest for power where the oppressor utilizes fear through violence and terror, while the individuals being oppressed show their strength by not showing their fear. In the second stanza, Santiago expresses that those who endure…

Today I am going to tell you about the time I nearly killed myself last year. I was on vacation at Pismo Beach driving ATVs with my brother and parents on my birthday. It was our fourth time going so we were little bit experienced. “ Don’t do anything risky it’s not worth if you ruin your life because of one mistake, “ my mom calmly explained as she put her helmet on. “ Ok whatever.…

Good morning/afternoon Mrs Vassilieff and fellow peers. In this short presentation I will be presenting three original poems concerning the social issue of racism. In the modern world racism is becoming more and more destructive. It disempowers people and destroys the cohesion in the community. I will be deconstructing the three poems using the STEPUP process and identifying and explaining the use of figurative techniques in each poem.…

Before I knew what was happening, I was on the cold, hard floor. Confusion and embarrassment lingered within me, waiting to surface. To me, a five year-old girl, there were only two options at hand: stay on the floor and cry about the pain, or get up and deal with the situation. Ten minutes prior to this incident, I was content as I stood up in the spacious shopping cart, strolling along Cabela’s, the hunting and fishing gear superstore. Although hunting and fishing did not truly interest me, the taxidermied animal exhibits were fascinating, and contributed to why I enjoyed being at the store.…

In the song “Swimming Pools” by Kendrick Lamar, he writes “Some people like the way it feels/ Some people wanna kill their sorrows/ Some people wanna fit in with the popular/ That was my problem”(Lamar), we see a very similar description of alcoholism in The Swimmer, by John Cheever, who also uses swimming pools as a metaphor for the hardships of being an alcoholic. Throughout The Swimmer, Cheever, writes using many motifs to show the narrator, Neddy Merrill’s, decline into becoming an alcoholic, such as the sources of the water in the various pools he swims in.…

    The Victims Poem Analysis

    • 1110 Words
    • 5 Pages

Upon initial reading, “The Victims” by Sharon Olds seems to be a poem that paints the picture of a life of abuse; starting from the dawning of the exploitation and arching over into the life of the abused following the maltreatment. In the work, it is made to be believed that the clear victims of the poem are the speaker and their family—which is a rightful and obvious assumption—but there is another victim that is not as prevalent as that of the speaker and their family: the speaker’s father. After a second read, it is made evidently apparent that although the work does focus on the speaker and their family as the victims of the poem, the ideal that the father is also a victim is explored. Since the father is depicted as an abuser, it is seen…

How do the poets you have studied explore the theme of loss and conflict? Loss and conflict is a theme that has been explored frequently by poets. Loss and suffering seems to affect everyone no matter where they come from. Chinua Achebe is from Africa and tells us about the loss and suffering in his country which is similar to the feelings of loss and grief expressed by the other poets from the United Kingdom. This shows that suffering affects every human being and always has done.…

    The Scream Poem Analysis

“The Scream” I really like this painting because somehow it involves mystery and insecurity and to my eyes, the rare views in it reflect a sense of how deep the feelings and thoughts of a person can be. In addition, the fact that the composition does not allow viewers to appreciate the face of the screaming person, is what has drawn me to it. Even though it seems to be that it was a lovely afternoon for everyone, it seems that it was not for the scared looking person. Although two boats are seen on the lake and two people walking very pleasingly behind, the scared looking person seems to be astonished and perhaps confused toward something. Hence, looking at this mysterious individual posing his hands on his face with his mouth open has given me the impression that he or she is appreciating something non real that no one else is able to notice; no one but him.…
