Completing assigned readings, attending class, taking notes, and reviewing and practicing with course-related materials are the building blocks of learning and studying in the college environment. Professors and instructors assign reading, conduct lectures, and hold class discussions and labs to communicate a large volume of information in a variety of formats. In a college setting, it is the student’s responsibility to read, take notes, and learn much of the information outside of class in preparation for the tests and assignments. In fact, each class serves a purpose and teaches a lesson or two about a topic or a section that may be beneficial and advantageous later-on. As for my English course, I have acquired many skills and lessons this semester that will give me a hint of success in my future professional life. One lesson that has stuck out to me is APA writing style. Three things that I have learned from this lesson are the general APA guidelines, citations, and references that will allow me to write professionally.

Hello Dr. Williams, Thank you for responding to my e-mail, and yes I had to reach out to you when I realize the mistake. The assignment was totally demolished and I am here working on it. Despite the stumbling blocks that I have continuously attempting to overcome; giving up was never on my mind. The questions that you asked on that APA paper, along with the how you wanted the class to present the assignment to you was all foreign to me. However, I am still curious as to what came across your mind as you read the assignment.…

The Process of Effective Writing Green (2011) states that APA and good writing is a long term process (p.69). The writing process has always been difficult for me. My writing has improved with the help of my instructors, online resources, and the college writing center. English 1105 has been an important learning experience for me and my writing processes. After a response paper, discussion boards, and formal essays, my writing style and process has changed drastically from how it was prior to this class. Each assignment that was required has shaped me as a writer. The response paper helped me to analyze the content of an argumentative work and put into words how I felt about each aspect. Although not time consuming assignments, the discussion boards have provided opportunities to discuss issues with classmates openly and argumentatively.…

Prior to enrolling in this course, I have not really taken any class that was strict about citing and referencing sources in APA format. It has been a challenge for me, but through feedback from my instructors I have been able to make headway. Another weakness I see in myself is posting my assignments at the 11th hour. One of my strengths is my willingness to learn new things and this class has afforded me that. Through accredited websites, and reading Masters, I have been exposed to new information I never once new.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

I started my journey through writing this year a bundle of nerves and a stomach full of coffee. This is my first year taking an advanced English course, but I was determined to do well. There has been no sleeping in class or slacking off this year, I’m lucky enough to take a college course a year early and at a better price, and I’m not going to waste it. I’ve learned a lot this semester, including but not limited to: identifying how exactly the author’s purpose and audience determines effective writing, developing pieces of writing though a process of planning, revising, and drafting, compose an organized essay with clear points and main ideas, used appropriate tone and formality, critiqued writing, and finally how to grasp the MLA format. My writing has improved through the concepts I have learned this semester.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

To be honest, I was terrified of jumping into my fall English 102 class. I felt I was unprepared for a serious college level composition class, and that I would have a strenuous time adjusting to a four-year university. However, as I walk away from my English 102 class I carry the understanding of writing a college level essay, undertaking research and completing a research and argument paper properly, and knowledge to prepare me for my other classes and profession.…
