In 2004, I stood in hellfire, attempting to fight a war as my characters sprawled lifelessly. In hopes to maintain my sanity, I continued to persevere, but my opponent was too powerful. She attacked my soul, corrupted my mind, and snatched my heart from its location and tossed it away. Left there to suffer, I asked myself: “Why am I fighting a battle I did not seek?" I could have withdrawn and submit to the brutality of my oppressor. Unfortunately, my adversary could not slay the intense passion that lies within me. So, I lifted myself off the jagged terrain and fought back until I defeated her eight years later.
