Allowing someone who breaks the law to have a joke sentence means that it lessens the severity of the crime to victims, society, and future perpetrators. There is no question in the fact that Brock Turner was guilty, but this is a question of why Judge Persky chooses to give such a light sentence. How six months was deemed a long enough time in prison is a problem. Allowing a guilty man to serve one twentieth of his suggested sentence is irresponsible to not only the victim but society as a whole. Since this case, however, Judge Persky has been banned from ruling on sexual assault
