When we think about business many of us just think about the profit but have a tendency to forget about our people and planet. Once I read The Breakthrough Challenge by John Elkington and Jochen Zeitz I found a different perspective on business. There is more to business than just profit, it’s about caring for our people and plant. This book is written in the name of "The B Team," a supporting group leader from business professionals who eventually aims to “speed up the game” in business. In other words, a better way of doing business, one that builds value while taking care of the well-being of people and the planet. It’s about taking care of the people. The great example the book provided is in Dorset, England where the people that suffer from anxiety, depression or autism are well taken care of. The doctor in England will provide the patient with a prescription, free of charge. The most amazing thing is giving a helping hand to better all these people. It has been a positive outcome, people feel more confident, has a better self-esteem and their well-being improves (Zeitz, 2014). It's about valuing the community and extending the help makes a difference. Break-Through Challenge also mentions the value of happiness to people and the most effective way is by taking care of their interest. As a business leader, you should always be aware of what your people need and be able to work to their need. The advice Plan B is trying to emphasize is promoting justice, and improve the quality lifestyle of individuals (Zeitz, 2014). The Break-Through Challenge leaders know it’s possible it only takes an army to be successful. An additional way to improve leadership is to pursue full transparency. Pursuing full transparency is a very strong weapon in business because it will help build trust with your stakeholders and employees. Even though the book mentions a lot more corporations, its beneficial for family business, employee own business, and anyone involved in the business. The more people get involve the better for the people, planet, and profit it enables to become a sustainable successful business Break-Through Challenge encourage everyone to rewrite the rules by becoming a leader.
