When it does this it interferes with the way that the neurons would most commonly send, receive, and process different things. When an individual uses drugs such as marijuana or heroin it will activate the neurons in the brain causing a positive output from them because it copies the natural way that the body produces chemicals into the neurotransmitter. Although it will cause the body to realize that it is not a normal chemical such as the ones that the body produces which will cause messages between the brain and your body to not be the same as they would be naturally. Also during heroin usage according to The National Institute of Drug abuse their researchers had been searching for several years wanting to know the long term effect that the drug caused to the brain, and now they have finally figured out that Heroin will cause the white matter of the brain to deteriorate. Once it begins to deteriorate there can be more things that can begin to become wrong with them such as they may not have the same capability as before when it comes to decision making, also to regulate your behavior may also become an issue during this a lot of drug users have a tendency to become more mean about things, and finally it can affect the way that you respond in a stressful …show more content…
and in other countries researchers had decided it would be a good idea to begin investigating the long-term effects of opioid addiction on the brain. The opioids are then known to attach themselves to different areas that contain a certain protein which is known as opioid receptors. When they attach to these proteins they are being able to attach in the brain, spinal cord, within the stomach and intestines, along with many other organs in the body. Once these opioids attach they are designed to block the pain that the body is feeling. Although they are made to help people who are having trouble and fighting a battle with pain, they can have plenty of downfalls once being abused and some of the things that can happen according to the “National Institute on Drug Abuse” it can and will cause a person to have drowsiness, mental confusion, nausea, constipation, and if a person then takes too much of a drug they then can go into what they call depress respiration, which is pretty much known as a person overdosing. When they go into a state such as that they then can start a condition known as hypoxia, which is when they had taken too much of the drug it causes them to have shortness of breath and that causes lack of oxygen to brain. Once a person reaches that area hypoxia is known to have
