In life, we are often too afraid to take chances for fear of failure and rejection. Being unsure of the unknown makes us uncomfortable, and we do not like to put ourselves out there not knowing what the outcome will be. However, with that said, what if we never took the chance, and we miss something amazingly beautiful? While The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and The Alchemist are so different, they are similar because both books are about two young men who have vivid goals and dreams that take them on incredible life journeys. His family home does not have electricity, nor wiring for electricity, because they cannot afford it. They relied on oil cans for light at night, or they simply just went to bed when the sun went down. He is one of seven children, and he is the only son. William and his father work endlessly on their family crop, just to put very little food on their table. Their family has nothing, but the love they have for one another, and the determination to survive another day in a country where poverty is a way of life. William is so poor that he cannot afford to go to school, so he learns every detail on how to build the windmill from books at the local library.
