First and foremost, in the novel “The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind”, the author Kamkwamba portrays the significance of chasing your dream. In the text, it said, “If I could somehow get the wind to spin the blades on a windmill and rotate the magnets in a dynamo, I could create electricity. And if I attached a wire to the dynamo, I could power anything, especially a lightbulb. All I needed was a windmill and I could have lights.” (Kamkwamba, 149). William was in despair after he had to drop out of school due to the famine. However, coming across the idea of creating a windmill lit a fire in his heart, and created hope for him. William was doubted by many people that he isn’t capable of creating the windmill, but he proved them wrong when he made it happen. On page 200, it said, “Just then a strong gust flung me backward. The tower began to rock, so much that I wrapped my elbow around a rung just to hang on. Inches above my head, the blades began to buzz like a set of angry propellers. I clutched the bulb, waiting for my miracle. Then it came: a flicker, a flash then a bust of bright magnificent light. My heart nearly exploded.” (Kamkwamba, 200). Chasing your dream isn’t an easy task. There are many obstacles that would try to stop one from doing so. William, faced many obstacles. For example, in the passage above he could’ve possibly died from trying to achieve his goal. However, he wasn’t about to let go of his dreams. WIlliam was resolved to not only chase his dreams, but to fulfill it. At the end, William did the unexpected; to harness the wind. Not only is just simply chasing your dream important, it is also important to persevere through the obstacles within the way. Furthermore, the novel shows how William learned to persevere through situations. On page 290, it said, “Often people with the greatest ideas face the biggest challenges - their country at war, a lack of money or education or the support of those around them.
