This new place is called “Out-With” and Bruno notices that it is next to a rather strange looking camp. Bruno has always had a taste for exploring so he decides to check it out. So, Bruno follows the fence all the way. He stumbles upon a young boy sitting on the opposite side of the fence. The boy is not wearing shoes and is wearing striped “pyjamas” (as Bruno calls them) and a striped cap. On his arm is an armband with a star on it. This boy's name is Shmuel. The pair quickly becomes friends and Bruno comes to visit Shmuel every day bringing him food. The two get on pretty well as they are both lonely. One day, Shmuel remarks on the fact that he cannot find his father and is worried, Bruno offers to help his friend. Shmuel finds Bruno a set of the “pyjamas”, Bruno strips down and puts on the “pyjamas.” A small Bruno sized hole dug underneath the fence and the two go to look for Shmuel's father. It all goes wrong when the soldiers herd the prisoners, including Bruno, into the gas chambers. The two friends die together, and Bruno’s family discovers what really happened to Bruno when he is deemed
