The Boy In The Striped Pajamas Cultural Analysis

I chose to read the book The Boy in Striped Pajamas because the culture is different then mine. “Mother he insisted. What’s going on? Are we moving”(6)? At this point of the story Bruno has discovered that he has to move due to his dad's job. ‘But what other children?’ asked Gretel. ‘Where are they?” (19-20) Bruno is now realizing that there are other children around. But he realizes that there are only boys and no girls. ‘Well, we are home, Bruno’(28-30). Bruno doesn’t like the house where he lives with his parents. They had to move because of his dad’s job. In our culture sometimes we have to move due to parents jobs. “Who are all those people outside”(31-32)? Bruno asked his dad that question. His dad tries to explain to Bruno why …show more content…
Bruno asked Shmuel this question. On Shmuel side of the fence there is a hundred of boys on his side of the fence. But it is different from Bruno because there isn’t that many boys on his side of the fence that he lives with. That is a difference in cultures also because Shmuel has hundreds of boys on his side. But on Bruno’s side, he doesn’t have a hundred boys on his side of the …show more content…
Bruno wants to go on the other side of the fence, but it’s not a very nice place. Some places aren’t the nicest place to live. For Shmuel where he lives it’s not that nice. Shmuel told Bruno something that happens inside. Shmuel examples that they all have to wear the same clothes they took their other clothes. That is different from our culture because we don’t get our clothes taken from us and we don’t have to wear the same as everyone one else.
“The haircut” (92-94).On Shmuel side of the fence you have to cut your hair. Plus wear the striped pajamas. This is a difference in our culture because we don’t have to cut our hair the same way. But in Shmuel culture they have to cut their hair the same way as everyone else. All in the book the boy in the striped pajamas has a lot of differences between our two cultures. For example, like Shmuel never gets to leave his side of the fence but Bruno gets to leave his house. Bruno gets to see different people during the day well Shmuel doesn't get to see anymore else just the people he is with

In the story, The Boy In The Striped Pajamas book was different than the movie because of its ending. Out of all the differences the end of the movie is different and the most important part of the story. In the book, the difference was the father did not stay in Out-With for a year to look for his missing son. In the movie, the end was more dramatic and the parents knew what had happened to the boy which showed the emotional parents. Movies made after books are usually different but with this the most important part was produced and explained in a more understandable way.…

Bruno is visually representing himself trying to hold onto the belief that his dad is a good man as that belief slips away. Bruno is still trying to fit in with two groups of people that can be seen as polar opposites during World War II: the Nazis and the Jews. He’s expressing how he wants to belong to both of these groups at once, buts he’s struggling to see the Nazis as virtuous people that he wants to belong with. Since Bruno wants to fit in with a group of more agreeable people, the struggle will end in Bruno not fitting in with his father and other individuals like him. This fits in to the bigger theme of how individuals want to be viewed as similar to the group we belong with, whether to look cool or to look like a better…

I am Comparing The Boy and the Striped Pajamas book and Movie. The book and movie are very much alike in many ways. There many alikes of movie and book like they kept the same characters like Bruno, Gretel, Mom, Dad, and Shmuel. Those were the main characters of the book and movie. Other alikes of the book and movie like they kept the plot of the story of Bruno moving from Germany to “Out-with” in Poland.…

Cue a sudden move to the German countryside, due to his father’s (David Thewlis) important work as a Nazi officer. Bruno is introduced to a desolate house with a peculiar “farm” across the woodland.. Bruno died a very tragic death and he is responsible for it. He disobeyed his mother many times and made the decision to go under the fence, consequently letting his curiosity get the best of him. One reason Bruno is to blame for his death is because he disobeyed his mother. She specifically told him to not play or explore in the backyard, which he disregarded multiple times. If he would have listened to his mother and just stayed in the front yard, he would have never met Shmuel and gotten killed.…

    1. In the film, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, the concepts of person perception, cultural and personal identities and persuasive qualities are demonstrated through Bruno and Shmuel’s friendship. We can see person perception through the two boys because at their age to each other the other is just another boy their age that they can play with in a place where they are all alone. They have none of the prejudices or assumptions about each other that those older than them would have casted on each other. Cultural and personal identity is seen through Bruno wanting to be just like his father when he is pretending to be one of the German fighter planes with his friend.…

Boyne demonstrates the ideas of power of friendship, innocence, and discrimination through his novel. Some of the key techniques Boyne has used to express these ideas are narrative voice, characterisation, dramatic irony and juxtaposition.…
