The Boxtrolls: Movie Analysis

Movie Evaluation on The Boxtrolls The Movie The BoxTrolls, directed by Anthony Stacchi, Graham Annable, and Aaron Sorenson, was cute, funny and surprisingly good. The use of Claymation and interesting creatures draws attention to the film. This film is about an orphan boy who was taken in by these creatures called Boxtrolls when his father was attacked and kidnapped by Mr. Snatcher, the villain of the film. The creatures are said to be monsters by the towns people due to the lies and rumors that the Villain spread. Mr. Thatcher, said that the Boxtrolls kidnapped children and ate them, in truth they wouldn’t hurt a thing. The Film will catch your attention with its music, accents, and silly humor that is spread thin throughout, the characters will draw you in keeping you engaged, even if you don’t want to be. …show more content…
Josh Larson, from rotten tomatoes explains it perfectly “…looks as if it’s made from materials found in the back closet of an arts and crafts class”. Although it is a mix of stop motion that only uses Claymation, why this style was chosen is uncertain, possibly to keep you wondering why they didn’t stick to sketching characters. It does show talent and patients, creating all the little parts for the props and characters of the film and then sitting there for hours on end making small adjustments to the figures to get one scene. The colors are mostly dull and dirty looking but they made the villains where the red coats (box troll exterminators) making them stand
