Going through the period of the unification we witness the “Borghesia” getting richer because they were getting more relevant for society and they found ways to getting more money, and as it regards to the nobility we can see that they are getting poorer since they weren’t able to adapt to the shift that was happening in the society. Politically there was a wide gap between these two classes during the second half of the 19th century. As I previously mentioned, after the country was united the bourgeoisie took over the political positions, and it was not only because of their acceptance of the new Italian government but it was also because they cheated the voting system as we see in “The Leopard”. In di Lampedusa’s book, the event that portrays this was when Don Calogero as the mayor held the vote for the plebiscite. In this occasion, the voting system was corrupted because the mayor announced the results as all being “Yes”, but it was clearly wrong because Ciccio Tumeo told Don Fabrizio that “I, Excellency, voted “no”.…
During the Dark ages, life went backwards. Girls didn’t have a choice in what they did, they would be in arranged marriages and stay home to take care of children and clean the house, while boys did whatever their dads did for a living. Usually, they wouldn’t stray away from the family job. During this time, the church gained the power of religion and politics. There were a few powerful families that battles for power during this time.…
In the Italian cities, there was much conflict and arguments amongst the Borgia family who were focused on trying to seize and maintain power. Machiavelli in response, devised a text, The Prince, which illustrates how to run an effectual government. In The Prince, he also describes how the good and effective rulers have to learn “not to be good,” and that they have to be prepared and willing to put aside ethical concerns of justice and kindness, in order to preserve the balance of the state. This logic was atrocious to peers around him, for they were used to the old medieval ideas of ruling where the king was chosen by God to serve as someone on earth, who manages the law. They also saw that the ruler/king was an all-powerful human being with…
The Roman Catholic Church, being the only universal European institution of the Middle Ages, practically governed every aspect of society. Medieval Europeans viewed the Church as a blessing from God; a humble order which was sent to protect them from the numerous raids and invasions which consequently led to chaos and disorder in society. Europeans that lived during the medieval times were pious and devout Christians. They believed that the road to eternal happiness was to fear their almighty father in the Heavens, to obey His commandments, and to apply bible principles in their everyday lives. With hopes to be favored in God’s eyes, medieval Christians turned to religious authorities for guidance on not only spiritual, but also worldly matters.…

Rome Lives On When the Roman Empire fell, its systems and values did not fall with it. Even after it fell there were very few changes within the rural economy and the Roman Empire continued to influence it. It began its decline in the 5th and 6th centuries because of the barbarian advances. Once the Roman Empire fell large Roman landowners developed a system to combine their hold over land and laborers. This system is called Manorialism.…

Cesare Borgia became a prince by his father's influence, and, despite his best efforts, could not maintain his state after his father's influence failed. This was not his fault, but was caused by extraordinary bad luck. Alexander VI wanted to make his son great, but had no troops he could rely on. Alexander allowed the French into Italy in exchange for the use of their troops to conquer the Romagna region. Borgia succeeded and made more conquests, but worried about the French king and the loyalty of his Roman troops, led by the Orsini family.…
This past November of 2016, the citizens of the United States elected its 45th president, Donald J. Trump. A common comparison in several reactionary articles was that the election of Trump was a sign that the United States was falling, just as Rome once had. The modern United States falling condition, in spite of selected similar situations, is not quite as vast in scale to that of the Rome of Late Antiquity.…

Political power hinges on being able to influence the activities and policies of other states as well as accepting other states’ strength and sovereignty. All states should be aware of its estimated power on basis of a test of the potential potency. At times, states make a mistake while assessing their power which results in social scientists collecting and observing incorrect data. For instance, Italy, during the rule of Benito Mussolini, was considered as a state with great political power. It was believed the Italian military force was huge.…

These students of the world around them also showed a greater interest in the role of humanity within this boundless universe. From this there is an obvious shift in the style and subject matter within the area of the arts.…
This book set forth the most efficient way to gain and maintain power during the Renaissance.
