The book Twisted relates to teens in so many ways with drugs, suicide, social issues in general. It really give kids a perspective they really haven’t seen even though it’s in a novel it still feels so real. Fiction needs included in curriculum because some fiction gives you good points to what teens and adults go through everyday. It also gives us teens and parents a different perspective what teens are going through. Its might not be there teen but there are teens going through all of these. When kids go through rough times with bullying or family issues they either go to suicide. This book shows what it’s like to be an outsider everyone making fun of you for the way you look. When kids/teens can’t handle the pressure they usually turn to …show more content…
they tend to do stuff on social media.“Images and information that teens post can be used to take advantage of teens and even make them targets for criminals. The difficulty of erasing photos and personal details shared on social media posts can have short- and long-term consequences for a teen’s reputation.”(Teens and Social Media). “The ability to choose the words and pictures that appear on their pages allows teens to feel more in control of their public image.”(Teens and Social Media). Teens turn to social media to get in contact with people because it's more convenient if they don't have a phone they are able to get on the computer. the struggle with social media is that they can take a picture of you and turn it into something totally different than what it originally looked like. In these situations too fiction can show you what's happened when you aren’t careful with certain things. Especially with social media and people with alcohol and drugs because things get out. “It was Bethany on a bed, wearing that little leaf skirt from her halloween costume and a bra…….Almost the same pose, except the bra was missing.”( pg 139 Tyler is narrating). If teens or anybody isn’t alert or had a little too much to drink other people will take advantage and take pictures of you or your friends and release them to everyone. In these situations too fiction can show you what's happened when you …show more content…
Although not everyone agrees that bullying is a factor, much research links bullying to teen suicides.”(Bullying and Suicide). “Young people are often ill-prepared to handle stresses; those already at risk for suicide may feel overpowered by the emotions associated with stressors such as violence, bullying, and sexual abuse, and may consider suicide as a way to escape.”(Bullying and Suicide). There are many reasons why people and teens commit suicide the top reason is stress and bullying but those aren’t the only reasons. People still don't understand why teens commit suicide so hopefully fiction can give them a visual on why they got pushed so far that they harm themselves. “ What would achieve the goals of a) a quick death, b) a painless death, and c) a neat death? Call me weird, but i wouldn’t check out knowing i was leaving a nasty mess for somebody to clean up.”( pg 191 Tyler is narrating). A lot of kids are thinking about suicide because of different reasons. Tyler wants to commit suicide know that he might be a messed up father marrying a girl that wants to divorce him and his kids growing old to hate him. all because of decisions he is making right now. The real life situations don't always have to be represented through nonfiction because nonfiction doesn't tell you everything it only shows you
