The Book Thief Comparison

My favorite book “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak is very different from “The Grapes of Wrath” but they both follow familiar themes. “The Book Thief” is about a family living in Germany during the Holocaust, although they are not jewish they take in a jewish man hiding from Nazi soldiers. As the book continues they survive off of each other and friends to keep going, as so did the Joad Family. In “The Grapes of Wrath” while traveling to California they had many bumps in the road that took a lot of bravery to overcome. Without the family's bravery in both books they wouldn't have been able to make it through the hard times. In “The Book Thief” the main character Liesel deals with many losses but finds the strength to move on, grow old, and

Collier is saying that love is not easy, and not worth it if it is not real. Based on the the text “The Chaser” he would agree with the quote, “The only thing worse than a boy that hates you: a boy that loves you.” by Markus Zusak from The Book Thief. I think he would agree because the way he portrays Alan it shows he thinks that love is annoying and hard to deal with when you do not love the person back and they want to make you love them but you just do not want to.…

Literary elements help to make up a story; for this reason they are extremely important. The elements of literature, are the ground beneath the feet of a story. In The Book Thief, written by Markus Zusak, the literary element, man versus society, plays an extremely detrimental role in the story. Almost every character, goes through some form of man versus society conflict during the story. Some of the characters that are most affected by this are; Liesel, Max, Rudy, and Hans.…

The book I decided to read is ‘Divergent’ by Veronica Roth. I thought it may be an interesting novel to read, considering I’ve only seen the movie, and I could make comparisons and contrasts between the movie and the novel. Divergent is a fiction book, set in the dystopian future of Chicago that is divided into five factions. Each faction places value solely on one specific virtue. At the age of 16, every citizen must choose which faction they wish to join for the rest of their lives.…

In the first section of the Book Thief we are introduced to Death as the unconventional, omniscient narrator of The Book Thief. The novel immediately tell us that the story will mix elements of fantasy with historical fact. Death is a very interesting and different narrator compared to most books where the narrator would usually be more of a human like character, but, Death as a character is something that no one has ever really done. Rather than being stereotypically grim or creepy, Death presents himself as sensitive, and and more regretful about his line of work. Death also lets us know that he isn't a harsh person, and actually has feelings for the souls he collects, and the humans left behind.…

Victims, perpetrators, and bystanders all have a very key, very relevant part in wars. Some are worse than others but it can come down to opinion. Victims are the abused ones that should be helped. Perpetrators are those following orders and don’t always have a choice and bystanders are those that chose not to help another human being. Bystanders are the worst in my opinion.…

Most characters in The Book Thief are naïve to the fact that one’s degree of morality seems to work both against and for people regarding their fate. Sometimes good people suffer while bad people benefit; sometimes bad people live while good people die. Fate, however, does not take morality into account. Instead, it is an unbiased, random phenomenon. Being one of high moral standing does not necessarily provide protection.…
