This book is based off during the tragic times of the Holocaust around 1943. Taking place in Copenhagen, Annemarie and Ellen were best friends. They live every day in fear, never knowing what is going to happen next. It was a time that the girl’s wish they didn’t have to live in, but unfortunately there was nothing to stop it. Food was scarce at times too. Annemarie and Ellen are so close that when tough times occurred, Ellen starts to live with Annemarie’s family. Except this wasn’t all fun and games.
