We both struggle against society that we live in. That does not necessarily mean that our societies are a “bad” force, it just means that they oppose or resist our own personal goals. Leisel is opposed by the idea of Nazism at the time, this is enforced by many of the citizens of her country, so almost anywhere she goes, she will face the same problem. “Burn them again, and watch them burn this time!” (Zuzak page number) This shows how much the Nazis are against books and literature. They take time to go out of their way and make a show of how they destroy the books. THey use propaganda and encourage the citizens to join their cause, effectively brainwashing them. This scares Liesel and influences her to learn quietly and in secret. She fears If she were discovered with stolen books, she and her family would be taken away. For me however, the struggle I face is not so much of an idea or person, but more of an aspect of life. I will always have responsibilities in my life that I will struggle with managing.
