The Book Theif

Lisel was a foster child during the Holocaust, to Hans and Rosa Hubermann in Germany. During 1941-1945, Germany had brutal concentration camps against Jews and Marcus Zusak wrote The Book Thief, a historical fiction that has truthful details on what happened during the Holocaust. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is the best historical fiction novel because it provides information about the different perspectives on the Holocaust. In The Book Thief Lisel is a foster child to Mr. and Mrs. Hubermann, at the beginning of the book Lisel does not know how to read and is very anxious and timid. Jenni Adams, who wrote “'Into Eternity's Certain Breadth': Ambivalent Escapes in Markus Zusak's 'The Book Thief'” stated, “What makes the novel unusual for a Holocaust text is its narration by Death, a potentially disturbing figure who nevertheless functions to mediate the harsh realities of the novel’s subject matter” (Adams). Markus Zusak’s narrator for The Book Thief is Death, although the narrator is Death, there is a huge insight into different characters throughout the novel.
