At the beginning of this semester I remember thinking to myself “I’m not going to do very well in this class am I?” I know for a fact that I’m not a very good English student. Personally I don’t like to read. My writing skills were around average. Then our first class summary on the book “The Slave Next Door” came in. I just remember taking a deep breath thinking “here goes nothing” after the first five minutes of simply focusing it’s as if my fingers had a mind of their own. I went wild on that paper. I was expecting a seventy on that paper but I ended up getting an eighty. I was surprised to learn that I had decent skills in writing. As time passed by and I attended more and more classes I remember just completely focusing on the professor. …show more content…

Now I know how to do well organized and informative papers while using reliable resources. I have chosen to evaluate my first two essays. My evaluation essay and my casual essay. I chose to revise these essays because they are my best essays as of today and I would like to see how much I can improve an already good essays. With these new skills how much can I improve? For my evaluative essay I chose to focus mostly on my local revisions. I did not need to work on any global revisions for this essay because there were no major errors in my ideas, purpose, evidence, or organization. Exercising My Writing Skills Writing is evolving by the day in the English language, in other words communication is evolving on the daily since writing is our main source of communication. Learning how to write the English language in an academic setting has been one of my greatest accomplishments as a scholar, despite the fact that, I am still learning new skills daily on how to improve my writing. Even though, I am not the best the writer, I have gained enough strength in my writing to separate me from the average writer. In other words, the best way to improve on something is by practicing, and that is a lesson writing papers has taught me. Over the semester, I found that the hardest part of all of the essays that I have written was using and finding evidence. The first paper that I wrote was extremely hard to write because I did not know how to find and use evidence. Now, I feel extremely confident in doing this. Another thing that I would like to point out is I am not as repetitive as I was before. Most of the papers that I have written before this year were very repetitious.…

PADM 302 Course Reflection My primary goals for this course were to improve my writing skills in two specific ways. I wanted to be able to write with greater speed, but with apparent quality, and I wanted to be clearer in my writing. I had two strategies in mind to meet these goals. The first included becoming proficient at writing outlines and frameworks, which, I thought, would help me better adhere to my objectives for the papers I write. The second strategy was to learn methods by which I could become more concise in writing which would enable me to more powerfully present the points I wish to deliver in papers.…

On the first day of class, I felt pretty confident about my level of skills as a writer, but little did I know there were a lot of aspects in my writing that could be improved. As time progressed and we learned more about colloquial language and little things I could change in my essays to further advance and improve my writing. Now, I feel even more confident about my writing and know that all of these little changes I can make in my writing create a better flow of ideas and a higher level of formality. I feel that throughout this semester I have been greatly challenged as a writer and have advanced the most that I ever have in writing within such a short period of time. I have put in a lot time and effort into this class in order to create…

Viewing the past four essays shows the progress and decline of my writing style, and structure. The four essays that were required by the class varied from the best to the worst, both having their similarities and differences. Choosing two out of the four essays, I came to a conclusion that the “process analysis” essay was the best, and the worst essay was the “descriptive” essay. Although it varied from their definitions and structure, the essay’s showed how much the writer, put their work into it. The certain characteristics that made it the worst to the best defined how well the essay would turn out to be.…

Overall, I learned how to draw from sources I was given while also using outside articles to support my argument. While I had many strengths, I also had a few weaknesses. I tended to repeat the same ideas throughout my essay by using different wording. I feel like I need to expand on my ideas more, which I achieved in the next…

Mistakes cannot always be seen as a negative, as you can move on and correct them to better your knowledge. From my first essay this semester to my last I have seen a vigorous amount of improvement. Not only seen in my grades, but in the way my writing has transitioned between paragraphs and topics. This has helped my work flow more and added a keen sense of intelligence. I have seen much improvement in my essays but have seen the most significant change from my first entrance essay “My season”, to my major events essay “Wayward Feelings”, to my final argumentative essay “A Helpful Hand”.…

Keep Writing Simple: Until recently, I was sure academic writing needed to be complex. I thought students who used big words and wrote long sentences appeared intelligent; however, that is incorrect (Grellier & Goerke, 2014). I must apply the following principles to improve the quality of my writing.…
