The Book Solitary: Personal Narrative

Personal response:The book Solitary was a great book. The book had a lot of really descriptive words to described what happened in the story. I liked how the story described how Alex and his two friends, Zee and Simon, kill the Wheezer. It used so many descriptive words in that scene it almost seemed real. I really wondered what was going happen to them next. Were they gonna be turned into black suits? Were they going to get killed?

Plot : This book started off with Alex still in Furnace penitentiary. Alex talked about how he was not a good person. He said that he had stolen from many people. He then started to talk about how Donovan and he planned to escape Furnace. They told Zee their plan of escaping. Their plan was to fill gloves up with gas and hide them under their beds. They would take them the next day when they went mining. It took them a couple of weeks, but then they were ready to escape. Alex, Gary, and Zee blew a hole in the wall and started their adventure into the dark. They went down the stream and realized they went the wrong way, so they headed up the stream almost getting killed by a dog. They started to hear Wheezers up ahead. Gary said he was not going to go down there because of the Wheezers. They found a hole to crawl in and Gary made Alex go first. Alex crawled in and kept going, although the hole got smaller. He made his way to a cavern. Gary got stuck and had to be pulled out. They started to walk through the cavern when Alex heard footsteps. Alex got tackled by something with sharp teeth. Gary started to run and Zee pushed the creature off of Alex. They ran toward the

Introduction The social changes that have taken place over the decades have led to a rising social phenomenon across all societies in the 21st century – the increasing trend of solo living. In his book Going Solo: The Extraordinary Rise and Surprising Appeal of Living Alone, Eric Klinenberg highlights that people today are choosing to live alone simply “because [they] can”. Rebelling against the traditional beliefs that social distance brings about concerns for the fabric of society, Klinenberg urges readers to embrace the change instead. Considering that our history has led us to where we are today, living alone has become inevitable.…

Plot: The exposition of this book is rather unique, because instead of taking place solely in one spot, it was scattered throughout the book. The beginning introduces the main conflict –who owns the key –but not who the characters are as people. It takes a majority of the book for the reader to understand the characters. Foer decided to write the book like this to make it more like reality. It takes a long time to really get to know another person, and by withholding information about the characters he displays this.…

Feeling like an outsider is something I do on a daily. Ever since I could remember I had always felt like I didn’t belong. Whether that was because I was taller than most kids my age, or I was always at least two years younger than all of my classmates. I had always felt different, almost as if I was supposed to be born in another time. The need to belong is one of the fundamental needs within all humanity as we all feel the need to "fit in".…
