The book of Romans was written by the apostle Paul, who was formally known as Saul. In the book before, Acts, Saul was a murderer. He persecuted Christians for their faith. In chapter 9 of Acts, Saul was on his way to Damascus and he heard the Lord say, "Saul, why do you persecute me?” He became blind for three days. Meanwhile, the Lord was speaking to a righteous man named Ananias. He told Ananias to seek Saul out, and while he was skeptical, he obeyed the Lords commands. When he found Saul, Ananias placed his hands on him and he was filled with the Holy Spirit and was also baptized. Saul was renamed to Paul, and he turned his life around.
