“Hosea” The book of Hosea is present in today’s life more than ever before. The rate of adultery that leads to divorce is apparent in all societies. The Huffington Post wrote an article, based on surveys, stating that 33 percent of men and 19 percent of women admitted to being unfaithful. In relation to Hosea and Gomer, we see that Hosea obeyed the word of God and Gomer did not. After reading this two important topics come to mind, worshiping false idols and adultery. Today we as a nation worship false idols everyday. We see these idols on television and in the news for one thing or another. It is present in the news, social media, and even with political leaders that are suppose to be running the world that God has created for us. In the book of Hosea you experience physical adultery as well as spiritual adultery. The physical adultery is due to Gomer running off after another man and the spiritual adultery is in relation to Israel running after other Gods. Understanding this can be difficult, but God remained faithful to the Israelites through all their spiritual adultery. God had every intention for Hosea to marry a prostitute. However as Christians he does not request that we marry harlots or continue to stay in an adulterous situation. In further reading of the bible we know that there is a death penalty for anyone that committed adultery. It is also imperative to understand that divorce should be a last option and is stated in the bible that it is allowed in case of unfaithfulness. Matthew 19:9 “ I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, expect for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.” We see this happen time and time again. People in today’s time assume because they cannot get along the only option is to get a divorce. People should think about the verse from Proverbs 3:3-5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Follow the word of God
