“The question isn’t who’s going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me” (Ayn Rand). For many years, women have been thrown around like useless trash. They were know for only being good at household chores, keeping up with the kids, or being an typical maid. The men and society had downgraded their self worth and made them believe they didn’t have any power. The women of the mid 1900s were convinced that were weak and dependent.…
In Robert Fitzgerald’s translation of Homer’s, The Odyssey, the women play a crucial role to Odysseus’ journey home. Despite the fact that throughout the poem women are the inferior beings to men, it is with the power of Helen, Penelope, Athena, Kirke, Kalypso, and Nausikaa that Odysseus is able to return home. While each of these women, goddess or not, play a crucial role they are all very different and thus play different roles throughout the poem. While they all have different roles all of their roles are essential to his return. These women range from the loving, faithful wife, rescuers, temptress’, and an advocate.…
In the Greek book, Esther is a symbolic object. She aids in the freedom of the Hebrews, but the author chose to follow Mordecai’s story as a prophet and standing against Haman. Instead of standing in behind the scenes in the Hebrew version, Mordecai uses Esther’s positions as the king’s favorite to persuade the king to accept any of her requests. Esther still asks the same desires as in the Hebrew book, but the author of the Greek book puts much more detail into it, changing the scenario and the perspective on Esther because of the addition of the Lord. In the Greek version for example, when Esther approaches the king and is prepared to propose her request, the author describes how terrifying he is and Esther faints from fear.…

She has lost her husband and her only sons within a short time. Yet, she keeps her Hebrew ways, not in resentment but in gentle loyalty. Loving her native place, she so speaks of it in a way to make her daughters-in-law contemplate settling there with her. The influence of her religion is upon them both, and one at least is inspired with faith and tenderness equal to her own. 1.2.…
People often forget how much God is in control of. Many come to believe that the events in their life happened by chance and thus, are in need of constant reminders of His sovereignty and His power over all of their situations. Although in the book of Esther, God’s name was never directly mentioned, His presence was clearly demonstrated. Though it might seemed as if her beauty was what made King Ahasuerus choose her, God had purposely meant for Esther to earn the king’s affection and become his new queen.…
The role of women in society is an issue discussed throughout The Odyssey by Homer, the Bible, and A Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft. These texts all illustrate different roles for women in society; however, there are some common ideas between the texts. Since these texts were written at different time periods, The Odyssey first, then the Bible, and A Vindication of the Rights of Woman last, a contributing factor to the differences in the views on the role of women in society is the societal norms held at the time. The Odyssey and the Bible agree with the norms of the time while Wollstonecraft wrote against the gender norms held by society at that time.…

In The Epic of Gilgamesh and in Persepolis women status are clear. They are considered less important and powerful compared to men.…
Eve and Pandora share the role of “The First Woman.” Likewise, they are both depicted as giving in to temptation, thus bringing suffering into the world. However, these two figures have stark contrasts between one another that reveal the views of their respective cultures’ towards women, god, and the world around them. I will begin by comparing major elements of both story. In Genesis, Eve is personally created by God, and born from Adam’s rib.…
These two passages give readers a glimpse of the role of women at the time and how the women were perceived. Women were important only for giving men children and not much…
Women were considered to be inferior to men. During this time period, people were religious and believed women were fragile due to Eve’s fall. They viewed men as a dominant figure. In Milton’s epic poem, Paradise Lost: book 9, Milton’s portrayal of Eve was based on how women were perceived during his time. In this essay, I will argue Milton’s anti-feminist views according to modern feminism in today’s…
