Holden was a sixteen-year-old boy who consistently doing poorly in his study and finally being expelled from his school in Pennsylvania. He fought with his roommate, Stradlater who wanted to take advantage on Jane that was the girl he loved before. Stradlater simply won the fight. Holden felt distressed and went to New York. At New York, he started to feel lonely. He went to hotel and saw a lot of weird people that he had never seen before. When he looked out of the window, he discovered something that let him started to struggle with his own sexuality. Holden loves a girl, Jane. He shows his love by protecting and caring her from being dallied by a bad guy. Furthermore, he seems to love kids, he feels his job is to be the catcher in the rye to protect them in their innocents. All Holden’s love is about protecting the one he loved. However, he realizes at the end of the novel that his love may not be expressed through protecting the kids running in the rye, he finally knows that love is about caring and being their friends.
