Sometimes people help other to help themselves. The book Deadline by Chris Crutcher is about a senior in high school, Ben Wolf who found out he has one year to live and tried to make the most of it. Ben tries to take care of others even if they can’t be helped because he cares about others feelings more than his own and believes he can control the outcome, but is he really care about his family if he doesn’t take the treat. Throughout Deadline he known as a caretaker and tries to save his complex because of that fact.
People can be either be a caretaker or have people that are one. They are truly great gifts from God and people will be lucky to find them in their life. An actress by the name of Jenna Morasca once said, “Being a caretaker is, …show more content…
This is kind like he gave up hope and didn’t want to fight for his life. It sort of seems like he’s being inconsiderate about making this decision. He’s not the only one being effected from this situation. His love one’s lives will change from his absence. Also, the fact that he didn’t tell his love ones that he was dying show a little bit about his character. Ben lied about his disease throughout the whole book. If I was in Ben’s shoes I wouldn’t been able to keep the information away from my love ones. I understand the consequences of tell them of them treating me different, but I would hope eventually they would get used to the thought of me dying. The main people are Rudy and Ben’s mom. Ben’s mom is born with this disease and it can’t be fixed by him. For Rudy he was born with the constant urge to touch boys and in the end he couldn’t stop himself and molested one of his alter boys. Rudy felt terrible for doing this and the young boy eventually committed suicide. This caused a great burden on Rudy. Ben couldn’t change Rudy’s mind set or the things that he has done. Ben once said, “…where and the hell I ever got the idea I had to save every unsaveable wretch I come across, starting with my mother and ending with fucken Rudy.” (Pg. 201) Ben knows that these people can’t be saved, but he has the constant desire to care for others. He wanted to make an impact on the world from everyone that he has touched. Ben truly did make a difference in people life and showed that there is still good people like him.
