Commandment Keepers
There are numerous verses, all through the Bible, concerning the importance of keeping the commandments of God.
Prior to King Solomon’s death at the age of fifty-two years [forty years as King], he had experienced everything done under the Sun; however, he concluded that the whole duty of humanity is to “Fear God and keep His commandments.” (Ecclesiastes 12: 13) Nothing else “under the Sun” will take the place of keeping God’s commandments.
And, one of the most important things a person needs to know about God’s commandments is that He requires complete and strict obedience. God is loving and kind; easy to be entreated, but He will not allow humanity to trifle with His Word.
Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” (John 14: 15) Then, John summed-up the importance of commandment keeping when he wrote, “He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar and the truth is not in him.” (I John 2:4) And “Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.” (Revelation 22: 14)
Nothing is of greater importance than keeping the commandments of God; nonetheless, that does not lessen the importance of keeping them guarded. After the principle of obedience is learned, don’t alter God’s commands; don’t add anything to them and don’t take anything away from them.
