One of the most well-known and infamous organized crime families in the history of the United States is the Bonanno crime family. The Bonanno Italian mafia crime family’s origins go back to the beginning, in Sicily. In 1908 Salvatore Bonanno moved his family to New York. There he quickly took over the Bonanno-Magaddino-Bonventre clan and ran all business in the neighborhood of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Later he returned to Sicily and died of a heart attack in 1915. There was a lot of weakness in the family and it takes a powerful family to run the illegal activities. One main weakness that crippled the family in the 1960s was communication with the boss and information not being passed accordingly. Another incident that crippled the Bonannos crime family was in the 1970s the FBI infiltrated top levels of the crime family thus creating miss trust in the family and doubt about members being dis loyal to the family. There was a shift in the city's underworld and in the family there was a lot of high ranking members being infiltrated by FBI officials. This led to jeopardize the entire organization within the family; the crime organization being left with gaps, and the remaining members creating a civil war amongst each other. The fact that many mob bosses went to prison and every mob boss was turning on each other injured the family even more than it was already. The absences of the Bonanno leadership gave the sense of betrayal and made members would turn against the family. Although the members were loyal, the high ranking officials were being betrayed. The new mob Massino was a strong, well oriented leader that placed the Bonanno crime family on top in New York City. There were different opportunities to create more wealth for the family, New York Unions were one form of illegal way to gain the upper hand in the community. The Bonanno crime family also wanted to purchase car dealerships in order to launder their money in order to make legal business clean their crime money. The Bonanno family also had one of their mob boss leave the country and register as a legal citizen to legalize there business with their illegal racket in New York. The Bonanno family also had a control of night clubs that they used to make customers for illegal prostitution and loan sharking in order to make a lucrative
