“Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan” (American). President Roosevelt said this the day after Japan decided to bomb Pearl Harbor. The bombing of Pearl Harbor affected America in a bad way because there were many causalities as well as many ships lost. The attack of Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941, was a tragic event in American history. Throughout the 1930’s and 40’s Japan had been trying to conquer Asia. During this time, the United States had been helping Great Britain to fight against the Nazi’s by giving them supplies (Remembering). At the end of the summer in 1940, the United States had completely shut off trade with Japan. With Japan’s ongoing journey of trying to conquer all of Asia, President Franklin D. Roosevelt made the fateful decision to move the American Fleet from California to Hawaii in 1940 (Pearl). Japanese Admiral Isorku Yamato had one goal which led to the attack of Pearl Harbor. His plan was to infiltrate the US Pacific fleet so they could bring the United Sates down so that Japan could make a peace treaty that would see eye to eye with the Japans expectations. Yamato got most of his ideas about the attack from a book called “The Great Pacific War.” America knew that an attack was imminent, but had not tried to increase security at the naval base in Pearl Harbor (Pearl Harbor Bombed).
