September 11, 2001 was one of the deadliest days for the firefighters in New York City: 343 firefighters were killed (9/11 Attacks). Nineteen members of Al Qaeda made a devastating attack on the United States. Two of the four planes crashed into the World Trade Center and one plane crashed into the Pentagon. The fourth plane was heading for the U.S. capitol in Washington D.C but crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. The attack put the United States into a state of emergency and put everyone into terror. The 9/11 attacks took years of planning by the Al Qaeda. The nineteen terrorists that hijacked the four planes were from Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and United Arab Emirates. In the early hours of May 2, 2011, a small team of U.S. Navy Seals shot and killed Osama bin Laden, the al-Qaeda leader who planned the attack. Speculation about who planned the hijacking attacks settled quickly on Osama bin Laden. Bin Laden was a wealthy Saudi business man. His organization was formed to fight the Russians who were in Afghanistan. After the Read Army pulled out of Afghanistan in 1989, bin Laden and his network of supporters, known as Al Qaeda, needed a new enemy to fight. It was not long before they turned to the United States (Roleff 13). The attacks involved a series of airline hijackings and suicide attacks against targets in New York City and Washington, D.C. In 2000, many of the 9/11 hijackers were taking flying lessons in the United States (9/11 Intelligence).…
