8. Why are humans so easily psychologically manipulated? Think about brainwashing, or just how the majority of people think a certain way because they were told something is true or not. Psychological manipulation is a form of social influence a person imposes to alter the thoughts and perceptions of others. Often times, it is used to benefit oneself rather than being used in the interest of others. When people are not fully satisfied with themselves, they channel their dismal and anger towards others and blame them for their own insecurities. They label others as inferior just so they can feel better about themselves.
This was presented in the Blue Eyes Brown Eyes experiment that was done by a third grade teacher to teach students about racism. The blue-eyed children were told they were better than the brown-eyed children and were given privileges. This made the blue-eyed children more confident and made them begin to ill-treat the brown-eyed children who turned submissive due to their given state of inferiority. Even though the experiment was very short-termed, the effects could still be seen, showing how easy it is to alter the minds of people.
This sense of superiority and inferiority causes people to turn against each other, taking away the peace and making way for war and hatred. The voice of those considered inferior are oppressed and their rights restricted while those considered superior are given privileges and showered with opportunities.
