‘Blood is thicker than water’
The Blindside is a 2009 American semi-biographical sports drama film. It was written and directed by John Lee
Hancock, the films storyline revolves around Michael Oher’s (Big Mike) life as a young adult. The film trails
Michael Oher from his poor upbringing, through his years at Wingate Christian School, his adoption by Sean
Tuohy and Leigh Anne Tuohy, to his position as one of the most highly respected college football players, then
finally becoming a first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens.
Throughout the film, Michael Oher is isolated from any concept of belonging. Michael didn’t have much

Michael’s world changed after he was accepted in Wingate Christian School, he got accepted because of his
hard-working attitude to sport with only a GPA (Grade Point Average, 0-7) of 0.6, all the teachers thought he
was unteachable except his science teacher Mrs. Boswell who begins to understand that he learns in an
independent way. After school Michael has nowhere to stay and walks around the town for a while until he
finds himself walking back towards the school in a stormy night with a T-Shirt, shorts, shoes and a plastic bag.
The mother Leigh Anne Tuohy barely notices Michael through the foggy window, they stop beside Michael and
asks “Where are you heading to?”
Michael replies “To the school gym.” Leigh Anne hesitates but lets him continue, then remembers that the
school gym is closed, then asks “Do you have somewhere to stay?” Michael hesitantly responds “I do”. Leigh
Anne knows that he is lying and lets him stay the night at their house. But that night slowly extends as the
Tuohy’s begin treating Michael as a part of their family.
