Your environment and your family background have a greater impact or your education and success than you may realize. For instance, in The Blind Side Michael's childhood is horrible; Michael is raised by a mother who is a drug addict and lives in an environment where there is violence and gangs. As Michael grows up he is taken away from his mother and becomes homeless; he lives on the streets and has to fend for himself because he would rather live on the streets than be involved in gangs. Michael does poorly in school and doesn't have anyone to look out for him or provide for him. That "one night" turns into Michael living with the Tuohy family. Mrs. Tuohy provides for Michael and gets him into a new school. Michael is supported and believed in for the first time in his life. His teachers at his old school didn't care enough to help him be successful. The school Mrs. Tuohy gets Michael in doesn't invest in him at first either, but once they see his test scores they are able to evaluate and change how they teach him. They provide Michael with the resources he needs to do better in school. Because Michael is taken out of his retched environment and brought into one where he is given a chance to be successful he excels. One of Michael's friends form his old neighborhood who was a talented athlete ended up dying at the end of the movie; his talent was never discovered because he got trapped in his unsafe environment. This moving portrays the idea that when kids are brought up
