The Blackhawks Game-Personal Narrative

Decent Essays
It’s the first day of summer and I’ve never been more indecisive. My sister is currently on speaker phone expecting me to leave for Chicago in an hour or so for a visit. She’s ranting about all the things we’ll get to do together once I arrive. I’m hoping she can’t hear my desperate pleading in the background as I’m whispering to my mom that I don’t want to go. I catch my sister’s voice saying that we’ll go to a Blackhawks game. I’ve always wanted to go to a Blackhawks game. I guess it won’t be too bad, I think to myself. Then, that same thought that’s been nagging at me all morning occurs again. Everyone will be there: my competitive cousins, childhood friends, and unfamiliar relatives who I haven’t seen since I was a kid, and who I barely

The Blackhawks were finally getting hot, everybody knew about Glenn Hall, Stan Mikita, Pierri Pilote, and Bobby Hull. Mikita was awarded his first Art Ross Trophy in 1964 and Hull scored 50 goals in one regular season, which was considered a lot back in that time because of how little the league was. Fewer teams, fewer games to be played. Mikita also had real temper that made their games more interesting to watch. He managed to rack up 149 penalty minutes in the 1964 regular season due to a lot of fighting on the ice.…

As we get through OTA's and begin yet another preseason in Tampa Bay, we believe we have the right guys in place on defense. With the acquisitions of Vinny Curry, J.P.P., Mitch Unrein, and Beau Allen added to the defensive line, it adds the depth we have not had in a long time! The line will consist of Gerald McCoy and Vita Vea mainly at the DT position, with Unrein and Allen likely as reserves, but those two, just might end up playing a bigger role than anyone thinks!…

Honestly, I’ll come right out and admit that I have never been the Detroit Lion’s number one fan, or any football fan for that matter. Sure, I had technically gone to each of the homecoming games both years in high school, but only for the sole excuse of being able to put some red war paint on my face and attempt to catch up with some friends. The only exposure I had to the sport was walking through the doors of Phase Three during cross country season. Day after day, I was forced to push through groups of teenage guys reeking with a putrid stench of dried sweat, rotting eggs, and grass stains; the smell in itself was enough to make my eyes water.…

I started playing baseball when I was 7 years old and at that time I was actually playing T-Ball. For awhile I played baseball for a place called Twin City. While I was at Twin City I had mostly played the second base position. Twin City was an alright organization because they didn't have players with the best attitudes. Those players with not so good attitudes affected our teams ability to win.…

This summer on August 3 I went to the Mls All star game in Chicago at soldier field. It was an amazing experience. About two years ago we were on a plane to florida to go to DIsney. We went with my cousins. There are nine of us and we were sitting in first class so there are only two seats per section, so my dad had to sit by a stranger.…

Imagine a rocket, specifically molded, perfectly symmetrical, prepared to do it’s job exactly how it needs to with no room for error. Seems almost perfect, on the other hand we have the Rockets, my AAA hockey team the summer before sixth grade. It was made up of players from the La Crosse area who played and practiced together every summer for the last few years. We weren’t exactly the most organized team in the sense of having professional attitudes. The ceiling at our practice arena had leaks and water would pour out if it was hit with anything.…

I’ve been a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. I’ve been to their games, watched them on television, talked about it with friends, and once, even paid attention to individuals statistics. However, it’s the same thing every year with them. They lose, and we say next year. They lose constantly, and we say next year.…

Fear not your best friend fear Eagerly waiting for the sound of the final bell ending the game, I limped back to the locker room ashamed of failing my teammates once again. With my jersey drooping below my knees, I dreaded every second of ice time starring at a swarming pool of merciless giants. Receiving the puck gave you the opportunity to score, but for me it meant running into a wall. Running into other players sent me flying through the air before gasping for air and landing dazed on the verge of unconsciousness. The condemnation of failing to contribute to my team or participating in the physical aspect of hockey reminded me I was in a dark world of self-loathing because I couldn't accept this fact.…

It was on a cool spring night in the middle of May. I was running on a field next to 11 of my teammates and 12 opponents. We were losing the lacrosse game by two points and we had four minutes left in the game. I instinctively made a choice that looked bad on the outside but ultimately… was still a bad choice. It was around 8 o’clock on a thursday night, our girls lacrosse team was playing a normal regulation game against the dreaded high school team from Hempfield.…
