On the FBI website it defines the Black Panther Party as a group that, “advocated the use of violence and guerrilla tactics to overthrow the U.S. government.” Again, Seale and Newton stressed that the Party was not a terrorist group. For instance, “We don't use our guns, we have never used our guns to go into the white community to shoot up white people. We only defend ourselves against anybody, be they black, blue, green, or red, who attacks us unjustly and tries to murder us and kill us for implementing our programs,” (Seale 43). Seale and Newton did not advocate for violence, they plainly used their weapons as protection.…

One very innovative mode of expressing afrofuturism is through comics with black protagonists. The idea of a black character being the powerful protagonist in science fiction comics was formally rejected and seen as absurd by the Western world. However, advancements in cultural diversity and acceptance have made the realization of this concept a possibility. Black Panther is a sci-fi comic character made popular by Marvel Comics. After watching the film “The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution” I definitely learned more information about the Black Panthers and the roles that they played to protect blacks. Before watching any of this film prior I can say that I really didn’t know much about the Black Panthers. I know for a fact that my previous history teachers barely covered anything on the Black Panther Party. I remembered in these classes we may have briefly covered organizations that supported blacks, but I don’t think that any specific details were talked about or much about revolutionary leaders. Other than the general topics or leaders, such as Martin Luther King Jr., schools don’t have it mandatory that we should know more.…

Franz Kafka once declared, “I am a cage in search of a bird.” Through this very complex quote, Kafka successfully points out the fact that prison has to seek for man, merely because man does not wish to be imprisoned. But what purpose would a cage serve without the presence of a bird? It would not serve its purpose to contain if there was nothing confined within its bars. Situations may not always present an outcome of the preferable circumstances, however it is imperative to understand that while some tribulations are uncontainable, others may serve as a result of governable actions.…

The name “Black Panther” holds a different connotation to it depending on who you ask. For some it may be more literal and referring to the actual animal, for others it harkens back to the civil rights group formed in the 1960s. Now however, people are familiar with the term because of the superhero movie released on February 16th of this year. The movie tells the story of T’Challa, King of the fictional African country Wakanda, who returns back to his home country to find that he has a challenger who wants his throne. Yet, boiling Black Panther down to just another “superhero movie” feels disingenuous because the film provides so much more than fighting scenes, action shots, and an obnoxious villain.…

They are the top predator in every ecosystem they inhabit. Until the 20th Century there were nine tiger subspecies that probably numbered over 100,000 animals.
