The Black Lives Matter movement was created as a response to the unjust killings of unarmed black men and women in the United States. The purpose of black lives matter is create awareness to killings that are happening and that have been happening in the country. They would also like to bring about change in the way the cases are handled, due to the fact that many of the police officers who shoot and kill unarmed black men do not get indicted. This creates an impression that black lives do not matter because black people are murdered and the perpetrators do not face jail time. The movement, which was created on the internet through social media try and do a good job of bringing awareness to these issues and have gained tremendous attention and support throughout the last couple of years since they began.
Black Lives Matter movement and the Civil Rights Movement are similar in that they are/were both set up to bring change for black people in the United States. The Civil Rights Movement began because Black citizens wanted the same rights and privileges as other citizens. (Dave. 2014). While the Black Lives Matter began because of unfair killings of unarmed black men and women. The two movements are similar because they both center around discrimination and rights towards black people. (DeCourcey, 2016).
