Mary Academy Bay View we are taught to be independent, compassionate, and socially conscious young women. The issue of systematic racism can be responded to through the implemented value of independence by my ideals remaining loyal to the fight towards equality for all people no matter race, gender, or religion. When others surrounding me do not agree with my opinion, that there is still high amounts of racism within the United States, I simply share my thoughts on the matter and explain my stance fully. Being an independent young woman requires trusting my own judgment skills and acknowledging that I have taken to researching a topic and am not following a social movement solely because I am pressured. I am compassionate by expressing my concerns for the safety of young, African American men whether I am present at a rally or on social media. Compassion is evident when I do not remain idle but become instrumental in fighting for equality for all people of color in the United States. Being socially conscious of a situation such as the inequality of people of color in the United States is essential due to the diversity of our country. To be a socially conscious young woman is to share CNN, New York Times, and other reliable sources’ articles when they speak on the topic of racial inequality or a matter of police brutality. Being socially conscious does not mean only informing myself but educating those who are ignorant towards these articles because it does apply to their racial group. To respond to the systematic racism is to ally with the African American community and push towards the betterment of our criminal justice system and our country as a whole through acknowledging the hardships they face and the loss of amelioration of our
