Rudd shows the pressure and hard times that love can bring to a relationship within their conversation arguing if they should still marry. Mark asks, “Will you marry me Kylie?” to which Kylie replies “I don’t know!” and the argument ends with their relationship in an insecure place. Through the character Mark, Rudd uses the structure and the sound of the well-known Bible verse about love to convey his harsh views on the reality of love. Additionally, the mother often refers back to the Bible throughout the text and when Mark uses repetition, it 's the feeling of mockery towards his Mothers’ take on love. The Birthday Dream includes mature takes on love, considering the breaking down of love, it also discusses abuse that cannot be taken as a light topic. This play is aimed at people above the age of 16, and could interest people into their 60’s.
