INTRODUCTION: In the beginning of 14 centuries, Petrarch who's an Italian man developed a new idea called humanism. Humanism is defined as the way of thinking that has an interest in nature and the human society. Humanism was not only a respect for the individual or the human body but It’s also the cultural and intellectual movement of the Renaissance, based on the study of classical period. Humanism is a system of education that has created an interest in the study of Greek and Latin literature as a way to study human forms and nature. Before humanism became popular, art had more religious focus, painting humans was not highly intellectual in the renaissance, but now there's a less religious focus on figure therefore painting and sculptures began to focus on the human bodies. Humanism is reflected in Leonardo’s painting through many different aspects. The figures in this art work appear to be naturalistic. One aspect of the painting that represented Humanism was how the figures showed the human emotions. In this art work Leonardo genuinely wanted to show the different types of human feelings. Every face of the 12 disciples shows the viewers the all the actual human emotions rather than just happiness , which was a major aspect f humanism as you can see on the image above. Some of them seem concerned and others thinking. In the background of the painting, there are windows and on the outside there is a landscape of hills and other things, which indicates an idea of real life. There are four square doors on both sides of the room, which shows how symmetrical the painting was and it was very important for humanism because everything was supposed to be balanced.
