The world we live in today is in no doubt constantly changing all thanks to the technological and scientific advancements. These advancements are what have led to the birth of molecular genetics which is the genesis of improvements in the field of agriculture. Food is a very crucial part of human survival, and while it may be abundant in many developed countries, the same cannot be said about the developing countries. Malnutrition refers to both under nutrition as well as wrong nutrition. While people in many developed countries have access to more than enough food, the problem is they do not consume the necessary nutrition to keep them healthy. With GM foods then more nutritious foods come forth. A Swiss research for instance led to the creation of rice stains that poses large quantities of beta-carotene as well as iron that can be able to counteract the Iron and vitamin A deficiencies in most rice strains. It’s also for this same reason that researchers at the European funded FLORA project have created strains of fruits and vegetables as well that have an enhanced amount of antioxidants. The oranges for example that are being developed contain an enhanced content of flavonoids and phenolic compared to the organic oranges. Many of the concerned scientists and anti-GM groups are in fact asking for control and regulations on these crops for as it stands they are considered a free-for- all-activity. There have been reports for example of GM plants that skip the field trials .One such example is in 2006 when rice with bacteria bacillus thuringienis found its way to European supermarkets without field trials.
