Classical utilitarianism decides morality by looking at the overall happiness of a population using the principle of utility, “Jeremy Bentham’s principle which approves or disapproves of every action whatsoever, according to the tendency which it appears to have to augment or diminish the happiness of the party whose interest is in question” (Vaughn, 2015). Taking all of the vulnerable populations at hand within the binary gender system, being that of women, intersex or transgender, it is apparent that the actions of discrimination against these parties leads to a clear deterioration of happiness, thus making it immoral. If the gender system was removed, the issues associated with sexism and homophobia would no longer flourish, leading to a proliferation of happiness to a majority. Those who follow the heterosexist views would be disappointed in their loss, but the disappointment would not overcome the surreal bliss of others.
