“Killing the Big One” It was just any ordinary day in January and deer season was in full swing. We had been hunting hard all season and I was still yet to get my first ever deer. I was being patient though and not trying to rush things because even at the sight of deer my heart would start pounding out of my chest! My dad would always remind me “You just have to breath and stay calm then aim at the front shoulder and squeeze the trigger.”…

The short story A & P, written by John Updike, is different because of the way that Updike is able to write in present and past tense from the perspective of a teenager thinking back to his days working in a grocery store. The story is about some girls who walk into the store wearing nothing but their bathing suits. These girls draw everybody’s attention away from their work and onto them simply because of the way that they’re dressed. Besides the distraction, most of the conflict does not occur until the store manager notices the girls and scolds them about their attire. The comedic patter of the story is very evident with the way the narrator gives the girls and others in the store little nicknames that are almost somewhat offensive.…
Neoliberalism represents an attitude and structure of society which centers everything around the economy and promotes economic growth. On paper this may sound positive; however, this economic growth helps some at the expense of others in many occasions, and thus leaves a tear in the moral fabric of society. The Big Short, by Adam McKay and Charles Randolph, is a film that details the 2008 financial crash, and how a select few investors betted against what seemed to be the entire world and won.
