In the City of Los Angeles, Dude shares the same name as another Lebowski, a well-known wealthy man who looks down upon him. Unlike the Dude, Lebowski is a grumpy snob that makes plans to use Dude into scheming a million dollars from his company. When Dude was given the ransom money, not once did he have the motive to keep the money for himself. Lebowski admits he thought Dude would have ran off with the money, and although Walter his friend wants to keep some of it, Dude never considers it. Many of us would have called the cops or even kept some of the money for ourselves. Never the less Dude follows instructions and only wants to help in order to get himself a new rug. Later he is encountered by Lebowski’s daughter, she tells Dude about her father’s failures in business and how she believes the kidnapping is fake. Telling Dude to take her side on all this and get her the ransom money, Dude isn't sure what to believe so he agrees.
