In the article “ The Negative Effects of Gambling Addictions”, they explain on how people with a gambling addiction will often be so into their game that they will shut out everybody that they love and care about. They will be depressed because of all the money they have lost and have anxiety because of not knowing if they can win it back but always keep trying. Gambling is such a serious issue because it can make people extremely sad and desperate that they find no way out but to take their own life. That is what almost happened to Willie Thorne (Harriet. L). Willie used to be a snooker player. He had large amounts of money but got caught in the thrill of gambling. Always trying to increase his winnings. Eventually at one point he was one million pounds in debt. He had to borrow money from loan sharks to pay back his debts but then couldn’t pay back the loan sharks, his problems had gotten so bad that some people he had borrowed money from and that he couldn’t pay back came over to his house and threatened to cut off his wife’s finger for her diamond ring. Big corporations that fund or own casinos will tell people about how gambling develops and helps the economy in positive ways. Gambling helps the economy in multiple ways. In 2013 casinos had revenues of 81 billion dollars, when all of the numbers are counted it comes down to 240 billion dollars, and that’s only in the United States (“Pros of Gambling”). The gambling industry is a huge economical help towards the American dollar as well. Now if there is such a massive industry such as gambling it needs workers to keep it going. So the gambling industry provides jobs. In 2013 over 570,000 jobs were created because of the gambling industry (“Pros of Gambling”). Thus gambling lowers poverty and homelessness by taking people off the streets and giving them jobs. As well the gambling industries say that it’s better for people to get addicted to a game such as gambling than to things such as drugs and alcohol. That is in a way true because drugs and alcohol make people aggressive, seriously damaging e their bodies and health. Overall gambling is an addiction and affects many but it impacts the economy in such a way that it ends up benefiting everybody on that side of the spectrum and brings jobs to Americans as well as giving an alternative to drugs or
