Understanding the complexity behind personality gives a unique advantage of self awareness and awareness of other individuals. Doing so we 've achieved the ambition of psychology which is to predict and control human behavior. Personality is built up of 5 traits ( Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism) that develop through experiences and occurring events. Hence, personality is who we are because of what we 've been through. Which leads to the capability of controlling others and predicting their behavior because of what their past has given them a reputation of. From our environments influences on us, personal desire of changes, and lifestyle changes. Based on a 4 year study conducted on 8625 Australians conducted by Wood Boyce and Powdthavee, it was concluded that personality is consistent to our own life satisfaction as important and meaningful changes can occur with in 4 years. The usage of this research has been further implemented on the idea of changing personality traits for the better of individuals. Significant change is only apparent on 2 of the 5 factors, being opened to experience and increase in extraversion (Spence and Grant 2005). The importance of this research is that there is a capability of molding personality and changing it for the better of ones well being. Beyond that, being able to control another personality through “extraversion” and maintaining an open mind. In other words, through the simple knowledge of ones history we can determine ones personality out come and their possible choice of decisions. Why do some people choose to harm them selves? Why are some people emotionally unstable? Why do some people have trust issues? It’s because of their past, their experiences and how it has affected them. Having this knowledge at hand is the key to solving these types of situations. By knowing it is part of the past, we can help a person by helping them change their outlook through their personality. Whether you help someone or you don’t, in the end it is all on the person.
